I’m not one for writing but I feel I have so much to say and to give from what I have learned and experienced over the years and what God has revealed to me.
“Too many of us we have this idea of how worship leaders should be. If l have learned anything. Rather be yourself and be honest on the platform that God placed you on”.
I believe you need to be led more than you need to lead.
For many, this can be very confusing. Let me explain…
- If YOU lead, you will do it in your strength and that leaves a lot of room for saying the wrong things at the wrong times.
- When we are led by the Holy Spirit we feel the anointing and most of all His guiding presence leading us through every moment.
- You will feel the right emotions.
- You will know it’s not about you.
- Keep in Step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:16 – But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Don’t make worship about yourself.
YOUR time should not be on the Sunday morning when you leading the congregation. It is so vital to set aside loads of time during the week building up to Sunday. Filling your spirit with meaty words from the bible. Focus more on being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and what He wants you to do during the worship. Don’t try and focus on the production and if the loop tracks are going to work right etc. If you plan well before Sunday and make sure everything works then you can guarantee that it will all work fine.
Everyone involved in worship ministry needs to have a culture engraved in them for embracing change. Change is always good for growth. Remember you cannot lead if you don’t know how to serve other…
We as worship leaders need to learn to bring the best out of the team.
A worship leader is selfless when it comes to the team they lead. This is not a one-man ministry. It’s a team and we do it together as a family. At the end of it all we stronger together than on our own. 1 Corinthians 1:10 – Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you; but [that] ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment”.
In our human nature, we tend to want something in return when we give something. I want to encourage you that when you give your time to serve and be part of building the kingdom of God and the worship ministry in this case. There is no gratifying feeling like the Joy of giving and because of your love for it you not wanting anything in return. I see it like this… when you give your kid or someone you love dearly something they have been wanting and longing for. That feeling you get when you realize you were instrumental in fulfilling that dream. That’s how I feel when I come to the house of worship. Ready to give and not expecting anything in return.
So when you preparing for a Sunday worship. Remember to prepare your heart, your attitude and come with a thankful spirit. Ask God to break your heart for what breaks His…
